It’s TIME! The new and improved Buffett Score is here. Things are cleaner, my code runs faster, and it’s a much smoother process to get things done. So, without further adieu, here is December 2022’s Buffett Score update.
33 Stocks
There are 33 stocks that make the list. This is quite the drop from the last time the score was run, mainly due to a changing economic environment. For example, one element of the score is that a stock must have an earnings yield greater than the ten year treasury rate. With the ten year treasury climbing higher and higher as the months go on… well, you get the idea.
Here are this month’s stocks in alphabetical order:

There are some expected names on the list, at least for me going into it. Apple is one of the highest quality companies in the world, and a key part of Buffett’s portfolio. Texas Instruments, too, is a company I would point to if someone asked about “high-quality.”
There are some others that are, at a glance, a bit of a double take. Mesabi Trust is a trust that benefits from mining operations, I guess without other business operations it makes it rather simple to get a perfect score.
Williams Sonoma, seller of high end cooking and furniture (via Pottery Barn) does not strike me as high-quality, but I guess they’re doing some things right.
What’s Next For The Buffett Score?
First, if you haven’t subscribed to the newsletter, please do. You get a once monthly email (maybe 2 if something special happens) that contains high-quality investment ideas like the ones you’re seeing here.
Second, please like and share on Reddit. I’ve posted in the Value Investing subreddit, a sub that helped grow the popularity of this score originally.
As for what’s next, monthly updates! Going forward, BuffettScore.com will list stocks that have been added, and those that have been removed along with a complete listing on the homepage.
I’ll also be picking a random stock to do a deep dive on. Almost certainly, that deep dive will be posted on Seeking Alpha, just because that supports the type of writing a little better, but links will be added to future posts for those who want to check it out.
This month’s “random” stock will be Gentex. I know absolutely nothing about this company other than what I see on its homepage so it should be fun to dive in a little bit and understand more about how it ended up passing every check on the Buffett Score checklist.
